Price of Paper Shredding Versus Penalty  for Doctors who Put Medical Records in Dumpsters.

A local doctor was fined $1,250 by the state.  The doctor threw away dozens of boxes of medical records, rather than have a professional shredding company properly shred the medical records.  The medical records contained Social Security numbers, employment data, confidential medical records, etc.  It was found in the dumpster behind his office. 
In addition to the fine, he had to place information about the data breach on his website for all to see.  Given the breach of data, some think the doctor got off easy.  He saved money on a professional shredding company and took his chances.
